Bert Weckhuysen gave within the frame of the Earl L. Muetterties Memorial Lectureship in Chemistry at the University of California (UC) at Berkeley two lectures, interacted with the scientific staff members, as well as had several meetings with the new generations of scientists, including PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, making it a very fruitful and enjoyable 2-weeks stay at UC Berkeley in February 2025.
The titles of his two lectures are:
- Catalysis Achievements and Needs for the Refinery of the Future
- Advances in Operando Spectroscopy and Microscopy of Catalysts to Make Chemicals from CO2 and Plastic Waste
Earlier in 2024, Bert Weckhuysen was selected as the 2024-2025 recipient of this named lectureship in recognition of his groundbreaking work in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. This prestigious lectureship honors the legacy of Professor Earl L. Muetterties, a pioneering chemist known for his groundbreaking work in inorganic chemistry, borane chemistry, organometallic complexes, and catalysis. The Earl L. Muetterties Memorial Lectureship aims to invite exceptional chemists to UC Berkeley to present their research, promoting scholarly exchange and furthering the impact of cutting-edge scientific advancements. Previous speakers include a.o. Professors Matthias Beller, Ferdi Schuth, Matt Rosseinsky, and Cynthia Friend.
