In my research, I will investigate radical-initiated plastic cracking. Our society makes use of many products (partly) made from plastics. The most important attribute of plastic in its applications is stability. Unfortunately, the stability of plastic also creates environmental concerns as plastic waste ends up in our oceans and food chain. With radical-initiated plastic cracking, we aim to break down plastic waste into smaller hydrocarbons that can be used for the production of new virgin plastics, thereby closing the production cycle, creating a circular economy, and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
