In the future, the sun will be the most important source of energy for a sustainable society. However, current technologies do not convert all colors of the solar spectrum equally efficiently and thus leaving plenty of room for improvement. In this project I will focus on more efficient absorption of high energetic sunlight using “quantum cutting”, which is the conversion of a blue or ultraviolet photon into two infrared photons. I will study quantum cutting using advanced optical microscopy and spectroscopy methods and I will develop strategies to solve current saturation issues.
